EVO Flipped Learning Lesson Plan

This is my Week 3 lesson plan for EVO Flipped Learning:

 

Level: intermediate (B1)

 

Topic: internet safety

 

Previous class:

 

Students read a text about teenagers and the way they communicate online.

 

In class

 

students discuss the following scenario in pairs, then report to class:

 

Lisa is 13. She likes to chat online and to meet new people this way. She has a lot of Facebook friends she has never met. One day she meets a boy she likes. He posts his photos online and she finds him really cute. They have a lot in common. One day he suggests that they should meet. Lisa's mother finds out about this (she is (she is spying on Lisa online because she is afraid for her). She doesn't know what to do because she doesn't want Lisa to know she is spying on her. What do you think she should do? And is it OK for Lisa's mother to spy on Lisa?

 

At home:

 

Students watch the following video about expressing obligation (present and future).

 

 

Then they are told to go to this web address to find out about expressing obligation. After that, they do this exercise.

 

Then they watch the following video about the kinds of unpleasant people you can meet online:

 

 

In the follow-up class

they discuss questions posted in the second video. Then they go back to the original scenario and in pairs discuss what Lisa's mother should do. They write five sentences of advice to Lisa's mother, using verbs of obligation. Then they prepare a role play between Lisa and her mother, which they perform in front of the whole class.

 

After that the class is divided into several groups. Based on the "unpleasant personalities" video, each group prepares an alternative scenario for the other groups to discuss.

 

As a class, the students discuss what they have learnt about online safety. Finally, each students writes five sentences of advice for teenagers using the structures they have learnt.
